The ground is a wide-wale corduroy in deep brick burgundy — the colour of embers, of old clay, of a sari worn so many times it has become part of the person. Against it, an all-over embroidery in ivory thread works a repeating geometric lattice: ogee curves connecting at their points to form a trellis, and at every intersection, an eight-petalled star — each petal padded and satin-stitched, raised slightly off the surface, catching light along its length like a blade catching sun.

The pattern is immediately familiar and impossible to place precisely. It echoes Mughal jaali screens, Alhambra tile work, the geometric grammar of Islamic architecture that travelled the same Silk Road as the spices and the stories. Repeated across the full face of the cushion with no border, no interruption, it has the confidence of a pattern that knows it does not need to explain itself.

The corduroy rib running beneath the embroidery adds a second layer of texture — vertical, quiet, felt rather than seen.
